GDC report
published on 3/29/2006 11:11 AMFinally I'm back from GDC and this time I managed to avoid jet lag. The key might be to travel very early both there and back. Anyway GDC had some good lectures and the keynotes from Sony and Nintendo where very interesting. I also managed to get a bunch of free t-shirts and a free brain training game from Nintendo.
The Playstation 3 does have some good looking games coming out for it as we got to see at the keynote. To bad that it won't be out for another 1/2 year. At least it will be a world wide launch so we in Europe don't have to wait another 1/2 year to get it after the rest of the world has it. It does seem to be a very powerful machine and maybe they need a screensaver for it . ;)
Also got to see some physics on a GPU from Havok and NVidia and sure it does look quite nice however they seem to have a problem with objects remaining still. From my understanding it was beta code so I guess they will fix that before release. Furthermore all their demos ran on SLI machines where one card was completely dedicated to physics. This was optional however for best performance you needed that. Aeiga might have an advantage there with thier physics chip. I guess we will have to wait and see who wins the physics battle.
Maybe a physics screensaver would be an idea. The old code I wrote for a very fast rip able cloth on the old XBox should do fine for a simple flag screensaver.
